Manchester United had little difficulty in a routine 2-0 win over Swansea at Old Trafford and remain level on points, but second in the table to Manchester City on goal difference with just one game of the campaign remaining. Two first half-goals proved sufficient for United and whilst three points was the crucial target it was disappointing not to see the host's try to make some inroads into City's plus 8 goal difference after the break.
Swansea have now only won once in the league in their last eight outings and rarely looked like providing an upset at the Theatre of Dreams.
Paul Scholes and Ashley Young did the damage in a nine minute spell just before the interval.
Michael Carrick's effort could have been heading for goal but Scholes made sure with a delicate flick-on.
Then just before the break Scholes turned provider. Wayne Rooney initially looked likely to convert the cross, but the ball ran to Young who curled home from 18 yards.
Swansea showed more fight after the break and denied United the chance to improve their goal difference.
For the title make the short move from Old Trafford to Manchester City, Roberto Mancini's team need only to mirror United's result on the final day of the season next weekend.
