Manchester City made light of their poor record at White Hart Lane, defeating Tottenham 5-1, with Edin Dzeko hitting four.

This time last season both City and Spurs were being tipped as likely contenders for a Champions League spot, but 12 months-on and whilst City have progressed with a series of expensive signings, Tottenham have stood still.

This was starkly shown as Tottenham had no answer to City’s attacking performance in which Samir Nasri had an outstanding debut.

Roberto Mancini’s men were three goals to the good by the hour mark and whilst Younes Kaboul headed a consolation City then added two more before the final whistle.

Dzeko scored four and City’s other recent big money signing Sergio Aguero fired in a fine sole effort to maintain Manchester City’s 100% start to the season.

Referee: Phil Dowd
