League leaders Manchester City are five points clear of second placed Manchester United after a routine 2-0 home success over struggling Bolton. Manchester City made it 19 successive home wins after making light of opponents Bolton who must have been surprised only to have been a goal down at half-time, such had been the host's dominance.
Bolton remain deep in relegation trouble after a fourth league defeat on the bounce and rarely troubled City keeper Joe Hart who had an easy afternoon.
When City did take the lead it was courtesy of an own goal from Gretar Rafn Steinsson who could not prevent his header from Gael Clichy's shot finding the back of the net.
Little changed after the break as Bolton defended bravely but never looked like providing an upset and their fate was sealed on 69 minutes as Adam Johnson's effort broke kindly for Mario Balotelli to seal the points.
This win by City breaks the record, held by Newcastle, of 14 straight home successes since the start of the season.
