Liverpool have hammered Everton 4-0 at Anfield in the 222nd Merseyside derby on Tuesday night.
The Reds were more than desirable at home against their arch rivals, scoring three times in the first half, before the visitors attempted to close the game up in the second term.
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard opened the scoring in the 21st minute when he headed home Luis Suarez's corner before Daniel Sturridge double his side's advantage when racing onto a neat ball from Philippe Coutinho to slot past Tim Howard in the 33rd minute.
Two minutes later and the Reds fans were sent into raptures when Kolo Toure played a lovely ball over the top for Sturridge who beautifully lobbed an advancing Howard for his second of the game and 13th of the season.
Brendan Rodgers' men weren't done yet as Suarez chimed in with his 23rd league tally when moving swiftly from the halfway line to slide past Howard in the 50th minute.
It could have been even worse for Roberto Martinez's Everton side four minutes later when Raheem Sterling won a penalty but Sturridge, in search of a derby hat-trick, blasted the spot-kick over the bar.
In the end, however, Liverpool secured a stunning home victory as they moved three points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham, who play Manchester City on Wednesday, and four ahead of Everton who are sitting sixth.
