PREMIER LEAGUE: Kuyt penalty earns Liverpool a point in Merseyside derby

Liverpool had to come from behind against Everton, after initially taking the lead at Anfield, before salvaging a point in a 2-2 draw. Two goals in six second half minutes just after the break had turned this derby on its head after Liverpool had taken a first half lead and looked in command.

With Everton now in front a first win in the league at Anfield since 1999 looked a possibility for the Toffees until keeper Tim Howard conceded the penalty that allowed the Reds to level and claim a point.

Still, a point only leaves both club's four points clear of the drop zone.

Raul Meireles put Liverpool ahead after Howard looked to have prevented a goal with a fine double save.

But Everton restored parity, and shock the Anfield faithful, with a Sylvain Distin header at the far post.

Within six minutes the Red half of Merseyside was stunned as Jermain Beckford lashed in number two with keeper Pepe Reina protesting about the validity of the goal.

But when Howard tripped Maxi Rodriguez in the box, Dirk Kuyt fired in to level and Everton continue being one of the draw specialists of the season.
