Wigan Athletic have somehow remained on the bottom of the Premier League table after a dominant performance in their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the DW Stadium.
Roberto Martinez's Latics had a plethora of goalscoring chances throughout but could only manage one as the Baggies scored with their only shot on target for the afternoon.
Wigan took a very deserved lead in the 54th minute when Victor Moses got on the end of his own deflection to take it past two defenders on the byline before putting the ball across goal with Baggies defender Billy Jones not able to clear properly and James McArthur toe-poking from close range to finally beat a hapless Ben Foster who had done everything to keep his side in proceedings prior.
Wigan's lead lasted just over 12 minutes before West Brom leveled when Paul Scharner stooped to head home Chris Brunt's left-footed corner from the right side. The equalizing goal was a massive blow for Wigan who had done everything right before the Austrian got clear in the box.
Earlier in the match, Foster had made a number of vital saves when he swatted Franco Di Santo's fifth-minute effort over before Gary Caldwell was unmarked in the area but failed to get his shot from the ensuing corner on target.
The 17th minute saw Emmerson Boyce's diving header from pointblank range skim off the top of the crossbar from Maynor Figueroa's cross from the left before Foster was on hand to make a huge double save six minutes from half-time.
The Birmingham City loanee kept out James McCarthy's drive with a slight touch to turn it onto the crossbar and then followed up to keep out Moses and Boyce with his foot at back post.
Mohamed Diame had a great late chance for a winner but managed to put his shot straight into Di Santo who was standing near the front post before Albert Crusat's cross from the left hit Baggies defender Gareth McAuley and onto the upright with Foster at bay.
In the end though, Roy Hodgson's outfit somehow held out for a point which sees them move up to 12th whilst Wigan stayed bottom despite moving equal on points with Wolves and QPR.
