Premier League chief Scudamore again shuts door on Celtic, Rangers move

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has again ruled out the prospect of Celtic and Rangers joining the competition.

Scudamore was speaking at the end of a week that saw Rangers chief executive Charles Green pledge to explore ways out of the Scottish game in retaliation to SPL reconstruction plans for a new league set-up of 12-12-18.

He told BBC 5 Live's Sportsweek: "It's only my 14th year of answering this question! No!

"Quite a lot of clubs around the world would like to play in the Premier League (but) the only clubs we are going to take are those that are promoted from the Championship.

"Our rules say it is only clubs from England and Wales and I don't see that ever changing.

"European teams from various leagues, the Scots and other people (have asked about joining the Premier League). There are always ideas. I get an idea a day coming into our office about how to improve the Premier League and it's all very flattering but it's not going to happen.

"We're always having ideas about how we can somehow spread some of what the Premier League does further and wider and everything else, but it's doing pretty well the way it is."
