Aston Villa have extended their unbeaten run to five games while sentencing Southampton to a third-straight loss with a 3-2 result at St Mary's on Wednesday night.
Paul Lambert's side led on two occasions before delivering a knockout blow late to move up to 10th on the Premier League table as the Saints tumbled to eighth despite having the majority of the play and dominating possession
Gabby Agbonlahor opened the scoring for the visiting Villa in the 15th minute with a neat finish, after receiving a through ball from Fabian Delph near the halfway line, before Jay Rodriguez got something for Southampton's dominance when he headed home Nathaniel Clyne's cross early in the second half.
Villa managed to edge ahead for a second time when Libor Kozak turned home Karim El Ahmadi's 64th minute cross but yet again, Mauricio Pochettino's side levelled five minutes later when Dani Osvaldo scuffed home Rickie Lambert's knockdown.
Southampton were in search of a go-ahead goal and came close when Rodriguez's header narrowly missed the target but disaster struck for the home side when Delph struck a stunning 25-yard effort to stun the St Mary's fans.
