PREMIER LEAGUE: Arsenal shackled by dour Chelsea

Arsenal were held to a 0-0 draw by London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night.

Arsene Wenger was unable to beat Jose Mourinho for the 10th time as the Blues strangled the creativity of the Gunners who are now winless in three league outings.

In a game of few chances, Frank Lampard went closest when he hit the woodwork in the first half before Olivier Giroud had two great opportunities to win it late for the home side.

Blues midfielder John Obi Mikel escaped a red card during the first half for a tackle on Mikel Arteta before Willian almost conceded a penalty when tripping Theo Walcott in the area.

The game was headed for a scoreless stalemate but Giroud could have ended it differently if his angled effort wasn't sliced wide prior to Petr Cech denying him from close range.

In the end, however, Mourinho got the point he wanted in north London as Chelsea moved back to fourth while Wenger was left frustrated as the Gunners joined league leaders Liverpool on 36 points but sit second by virtue of goal difference.
