PREMIER LEAGUE: Arsenal and Liverpool stalemate

Arsenal have now lost just one of their last 16 Premier League home matches against Liverpool following a scoreless home draw with the Reds.

Liverpool remain unbeaten but games like this are meant to provide a gauge as to how far they are off challenging for the title and whilst Brendan Rodgers will be happy with a point it was Arsenal who finished the stronger as the visitors were hanging on to a point at the end.

Yet the first half saw the Merseysiders take the initiative with only Arsenal keeper Petr Cech and some poor finishing preventing the home side from falling behind.

In fact during the first 45 minutes both Arsenal and Liverpool looked liable to concede every time they were attacked and by full time both teams were indebted to their custodians for keeping the game scoreless. In Simon Mignolet's case it was a third successive clean sheet for the Reds keeper.

Philippe Coutinho hit the home crossbar, whilst the Gunners also rued their luck when midfielder Aaron Ramsey had a goal harshly ruled out for offside.

Cech diverted a Coutinho effort onto the post and Alexis Sanchez also hit the Reds woodwork.

A draw was probably a fair reflection as each team dominated one half apiece but it still leaves Arsenal searching their first home win of the season.
