Sunderland and Fulham today played out a 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light as both teams failed to hit the target in a contest not devoid of chances.
Cottagers goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer was the hero with a brilliant injury-time save to deny Stephane Sessegnon as the Black Cats' poor beginning to the campaign continues.
Sunderland were unlucky earlier in the match with Kieran Richardson and Jack Colback hitting the woodwork whilst Fulham went close when Dickson Etuhu saw his headed effort from Damien Duff's corner cleared off the line by Lee Cattermole.
Kieren Westwood came up with a vital save for Sunderland when he denied Chris Baird who got his long range attempt on target early in the second half and then it was Schwarzer's turn as he quite remarkably used his legs to keep out Sessegnon's deflected shot to deny under-fire Steve Bruce a much-needed win.
Stoke now sit 14th on the table with just 12 points whilst Martin Jol's Fulham are a point in arrears in 16th.
