Premier League 2017/18 club-by-club preview: Part Two - From Everton to Liverpool

With the transfer market dominating the headlines over the past few months, it's hard to believe that football, yes real unadulterated Premier League football, will be beginning this Friday night.

It would be understandable if you're feeling lost after the frenzied whirlwind that is the off-season - the player movement, manager's getting shunted and all sorts of controversy that distracts you from the season ahead.

To ensure that your informed and ready for the new campaign, we here at Tribal are rolling out season previews for all 20 of the Premier League teams over the next four days.

Part 1: AFC Bournemouth, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Burnley, Chelsea

Today's Edition: Crystal Palace, Everton, Huddersfield Town, Leicester City, Liverpool

Crystal Palace

Manager: Frank de Boer

NotableIns: Jairo Riedewald, Ruben Loftus-Cheek
NotableOuts: Steve Mandanda, Frazier Campbell, Joe Ledley, Mathieu Flamini

First five matches: Huddersfield (H), Liverpool (A), Swansea (H), Burnley (A), Southampton (H)

Possible Starting XI: Hennessey, Tomkins, Riedewald, Milivojevic, van Aanholt, Loftus-Cheek, Puncheon, Townsend, Zaha, Lokilo, Benteke

Their season will be a success if... de Boer's philosophy is a success from the start and a top-half finish is achievable

Their season will be a failure if...the players don't buy into the Dutchman's tactics and they find themselves in a relegation fight once again

Breakdown

There is an interesting situation developing in Croydon. Crystal Palace have only brought in two players this summer, but their most significant appointment has been Sam Allardyce's replacement as manager, Frank de Boer.

The Dutchman is last remembered for his ill-fated stint with Inter Milan, in which lasted just 2 and a half months. He pleaded with the club to allow him 'more time' to instil his philosophy into the players.

Unfortunately, he will not have that luxury with Palace either. The Eagles hierarchy are scarred after last year's close call, and rightfully so. If Hull City weren't so deplorable and Big Sam didn't step in, it would have been Palace in the Championship this season.

The Dutchman can successfully transform a football club, just look at Ajax's Europa League final team that was built on his back. His Palace side will have to hit the ground running however, and their favourable schedule to start the season - except the trip to Anfield - should help them do just that.

Prediction: 12th

Everton

Manager: Ronald Koeman

Ins: Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane, Sandro Ramirez, Davy Klaassen, Cuco Martina, Jordan Pickford

Outs: Romelu Lukaku, Tom Cleverly, Aidan McGeady, Gerard Deulofeu

First five matches: Stoke (H), Man City (A), Chelsea (A), Tottenham (H), Man Utd (H)

Possible Starting XI: Pickford, Martina, Williams, Keane, Baines, Schneiderlin, Gueye, Klaassen, Mirallas, Rooney, Sandro

Their season will be a success if... all their expensive recruits gel and break into the top-six

Their season will be a failure if...their players end up being overhyped and fail to perform

Breakdown

Wow! What an off-season. The Toffees have had the best recruitment drive in the whole of Europe. The question is: will it have an immediate impact on their fortunes?

They've gone the right away about it, backed by billionaire Farhad Moshiri, buying Premier League players such as favourite son Wayne Rooney, Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane as well as highly rated internationals like Sandro Ramirez and Davy Klaassen. Encouragingly, Rooney is the only old one out of their new recruits.

Excitement may get the better of fans, who have licked their lips as the huge transfer fees have flown around, and it's not unfair to say that they expect results. But that's not the mission for Everton and it's not the mission for Koeman.

This season is about consolidation and hopefully, to apply more pressure on the top-six. There is a foundation being built at Goodison, they've got their spine filled with young, talented players, who have the potential to be at the club for the next decade.

Koeman's side is faced with a horror start to the season. Within the first two weeks, they are faced with away trips to Manchester City and Chelsea, with both legs of their Europa League play-off tie against Hadjuk Split sandwiched in between. Oh, and after that they have to face Tottenham and Manchester United at home. Certainly not the start Everton fans are looking forward too, but they should be focused on the bigger picture.

Prediction: 7th

Huddersfield Town

Manager: David Wagner

Ins: Steve Mounie, Aaron Mooy, Laurent Depoitre, Mathias Jorgensen, Tom Ince, Kasey Palmer, Danny Williams, Scott Malone, Jonas Lossl

Outs: Joe Murphy, Kyle Dempsey

First five matches: Crystal Palace (A), Newcastle (H), Southampton (H), West Ham (A), Leicester (H)

Possible Starting XI: Lossl, Smith, Hudson, Schindler, Malone, Mooy, Williams, Palmer, Ince, Kachunga, Mounie

Their season will be a success if... they gegenpressin' their way to safety

Their season will be a failure if...they fall back down to the Championship straight after such a memorable promotion

Breakdown

In stark contrast to their fellow new boys Brighton, Huddersfield Town have gone out and got themselves plenty of stock for their debut Premier League campaign.

German manager David Wagner led his gegenpressing tactics all the way to a famous playoff win over Reading on penalties last season. The Terriers were credited as being one of the best footballing sides in the Championship and a key piece to that reputation was Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy, who they secured with a permanent move this summer.

An area Town failed to excel in last season was converting their play into goals. They netted 56 in 46 games, thirty behind league winners Newcastle. To rectify the problem, Wagner has bought Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre. The former bagged 14 Ligue 1 goals for Montpellier last season, while Depoitre brings a wealth of experience.

There are encouraging signs that Wagner can help keep Huddersfield up this season, and with a favourable opening schedule, they will get a chance to put some vital points on the board early.

Prediction: 16th

Leicester City

Manager: Craig Shakespeare

Ins:Harry Maguire, Vicente Iborra, Eldin Jakupovic, Kelechi Iheanacho, Sam Hughes

Outs: Ron-Robert Zeiler, Marcin Wasilewski, Cedric Kipre

First five matches: Arsenal (A), Brighton (H), Man Utd (A), Chelsea (H), Huddersfield (H)

Possible Starting XI: Schmeichel, Simpson, Maguire, Morgan, Chilwell, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Iborra, Gray, Vardy, Iheanacho

Their season will be a success if...they secure a return to Europe

Their season will be a failure if…they are thrown back into the Leicester of old and have to fight for their top-flight status

Breakdown

The inevitable fall from grace after winning the 2015/16 Premier League title for Leicester City culminated in the sacking of Claudio Ranieri in February.

Although it was bitter, it worked out for the better. His replacement, Craig Shakespeare, proved to be the difference in keeping Leicester in the Premier League. City won 7 of their last 12 games under Shakespeare, and the former assistant was duly rewarded by being appointed as the club's permanent manager.

His off-season can be characterised as shrewd and astute. Harry Maguire, who was also a target of Tottenham, helps give the centre-back corps some young legs, while Kelechi Iheanacho does the same up front. The Nigerian showed his potential at Manchester City, and if he gels well with Jamie Vardy, Leicester could be deadly in front of goal. Vicente Iborra, who won three Europa League's with Sevilla, has been brought in to fill the glaring hole that N'Golo Kante's departure left last summer.

Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea await in the first five fixtures, which is hardly an ideal start, but they also have the luxury of facing newcomers Brighton and Huddersfield at home. The weight of being the defending champions is off their shoulders, which will allow them to play the fearless, competitive football we all came to love two seasons ago.

Prediction: 10th

Liverpool

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Ins: Mohamad Salah, Dominic Solanke, Andy Robertson

Outs: Andre Wisdom, Kevin Stewart, Toni Gomes, Alex Manniger

First five matches: Watford (A), Crystal Palace (H), Arsenal (H), Man City (A), Burnley (H)

Possible Starting XI: Mignolet, Clyne, Matip, Lovren, Moreno, Can, Wijnaldum, Coutinho, Sturridge, Salah, Firmino

Their season will be a success if...they finally win the Premier League title

Their season will be a failure if… they fail to qualify for the Champions League this season and for next season

Breakdown

It's hard to put my finger on Liverpool's season ahead. They kind of represent a horror movie at the moment, everything seems like it's going well, but you know there is somebody waiting around the corner to slice you up.

Optimism was understandably high after they secured a top-four finish last season, ditto for when Mohamad Salah and Dominic Solanke arrived at Anfield. Although you just knew that things wouldn't stay that way all through the off-season.

The failure to sign Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita has put a blight on Jurgen Klopp's transfer activity and once again called into question the financial commitment of FSG.

Neymar's transfer to PSG threatens to accelerate Philippe Coutinho's exit to the Nou Camp. Klopp can't allow this to happen, no matter how much the Blaugrana offer. It will represent a symbolic end to their title hopes, even before the season begins.

The next two weeks shapes the whole season for Liverpool; they must hold on to Coutinho, sign van Dijk and another midfielder and most importantly, defeat Hoffenheim to qualify for the Champions League group stage. It's difficult to foresee all of these situations coming to fruition and if they don't, expect Liverpool to fall further away from the title race.

Prediction: 6th
