Prandelli: Fiorentina can be proud despite Euro elimination

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli says his players can hold their heads high, despite being bundled out of the Champions League last night.

Bayern Munich lost 3-2 on the night, but qualified on the away goals rule, 4-4 on aggregate.

Steven Jovetic struck twice in the win and Prandelli said: “Clearly we're very upset, but also proud of taking the team to win six of its eight games. I'm proud of the lads who gave their all and were also attentive tactically.

“It's a great shame that the goal from the first leg proved so important. My players should not feel frustrated.

“They are working to become great players and games like this can help you realise that you can take on absolutely anyone. When playing at this level and defeating Bayern Munich, you can only be proud.

“We are trying to tell the team that when they are united and can read both attack and defence, they can achieve great things.

“Unfortunately we went into an emergency situation with five injuries that lasted several months, so that meant the same players had to do extra work and inevitably lost sharpness.”
