Italy coach Cesare Prandelli was beaming after their 5-0 thumping of Faroe Islands. Alberto Gilardino, Daniele De Rossi, Antonio Cassano, Fabio Quagliarella and Andrea Pirlo were all on the scoresheet in the trouncing.
"The anthem sung by the whole stadium was the most moving moment," Prandelli said of his return to the Stadio Franchi after five years at Fiorentina.
"It is always difficult to explain emotions. There is not just joy and satisfaction, but the comfort of knowing you worked well in a city and respected everyone. At the end of the day when you do that, you are respected in turn.
"Knowing my children, especially my daughter who never comes to the stadium, I wanted to look into their eyes in the stands.
"It was a marvellous evening in every respect. I was very moved before the game, but also tried to keep my concentration.
"Even though it might seem easy, I asked the players to focus on looking for the right pass and this sort of performance can give us the confidence to seek that path in future."
