Poyet's family and friends praying for Sunderland safety

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet admits friends and family in Uruguay are praying for Premier League survival.

The Black Cats shocked Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last week.

Ahead of today's crucial high noon showdown with relegation rivals Cardiff at the Stadium of Light, Poyet said: "I spoke to some of my friends in Uruguay after the Chelsea game and they said it was a miracle.

"It wasn't too far away from what I said. My meaning of a miracle is something that does not happen very often, something unique.

"I was thinking about asking for divine intervention. It's not something I have done yet but a few people are doing it for me. And they are doing well!"
