Poyet winning praise for Spurs improvement

Gus Poyet has been credited with being the major influence on Tottenham's revival under new manager Juande Ramos.

To some, he was little more than a translator who, as a former Spurs player, would help placate fans angry at the sacking of Martin Jol.

But, according to Gareth Bale, Poyet's infectious personality has been the key to Spurs' recovery.

The Wales defender said: "Gus keeps the spirit up in the training ground, in the changing rooms, everywhere. That's what we need; hopefully it will pay off for us."

Leeds' director of football, Gwyn Williams, is also a fan. He said: "Gus is a fantastic coach and I'm sure he'll become a top manager. He has a great ability to make everyone feel part of the team. He's a very strong character."
