Poyet wants Chelsea captain Terry as first Shanghai Shenhua signing

New Shanghai Shenhua coach Gus Poyet is going back to Chelsea for John Terry.

The London Evening Standard says former Blues midfielder Poyet is exploring the possibility of making Terry his first signing.

Terry is open to moving to China to work with his one-time team-mate depending on the financial package on offer. His first preference is to remain at Stamford Bridge but the 35-year-old had to wait until the end of last season before being offered a one-year extension and as yet there has been no indication from manager Antonio Conte that a new deal is forthcoming.

Terry's season has been blighted by injury and he will miss Saturday's trip to Manchester City due to a gluteus problem. The defender has made just one substitute appearance since Chelsea embarked upon a seven-game winning streak in the League.
