Poyet remaining calm about Sunderland's January transfer action

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet insists he will not rush into any unwanted transfers during the winter window.

The Uruguayan is determined to bring in some new faces this January as the Black Cats look to climb off the bottom of the Premier League table and out of the relegation zone.

However, Poyet is not looking to make any panic buys and would rather quality players coming to Wearside than quantity.

"It's not about just bringing in players for the sake of bringing in players," Poyet said ahead of Tuesday's Capital One Cup semi-final first leg with Manchester United. "We'll stay calm. It's the sixth so there are still 20 days to go!

"That's the most difficult part in January. In the summer, you've got time normally so you can check plenty of things and really go deeper into situations.

"Saying that, we work, I know what I want and what we're looking for and we will see what we can get.

"I don't think it's one way only. It's not like everybody needs to be experienced. It's a mix and we need to make a few changes if possible and we need to make sure it affects the team in a positive way."
