Gus Poyet felt his Sunderland side did enough to move through to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.
Goals from Adam Johnson and El-Hadji Ba bookended Sean O'Hanlon's 50th-minute own-goal as the Black Cats beat Carlisle United 3-1 at the Stadium of Light and the boss believed it was a professional cup showing from his team who were without three key defenders in John O'Shea, Modibo Diakite and Valentin Roberge.
"We are going to become a cup team. It was a professional performance today. We needed to do the job," said Poyet.
"It's never easy. You need to cope with a few situations and a few shots, but in the end, you need to be better, so job done."
Sunderland will now face the winner of the Kidderminster-Peterborough United replay after they played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
