Poyet pleased with Sunderland’s professional win over Carlisle

Gus Poyet felt his Sunderland side did enough to move through to the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Goals from Adam Johnson and El-Hadji Ba bookended Sean O’Hanlon’s 50th-minute own-goal as the Black Cats beat Carlisle United 3-1 at the Stadium of Light and the boss believed it was a professional cup showing from his team who were without three key defenders in John O’Shea, Modibo Diakite and Valentin Roberge.

"We are going to become a cup team. It was a professional performance today. We needed to do the job,” said Poyet.

"It's never easy. You need to cope with a few situations and a few shots, but in the end, you need to be better, so job done."

Sunderland will now face the winner of the Kidderminster-Peterborough United replay after they played out a 0-0 draw on Saturday.
