Poyet fumes at ref as Brighton scrape through FA Cup replay

Brighton boss Gus Poyet was angry with referee Robert Ellis after his side squeezed past Woking on penalties in their FA Cup replay. Ellis sent off Albion's player/assistant-manager Mauricio Taricco in extra time as the League One leaders were held to a 2-2 draw before winning the shoot-out 3-0.

"The sending-off was very poor," said Poyet. "Taricco gets sent off for talking to the referee and we have a player (Kazenga LuaLua) who at the weekend got a broken leg and the player wasn't booked.

"The referee lost it completely. Red cards should be given for danger and fear of getting injury, not because someone is talking to him and I can assure you Mauricio didn't swear to him."

Poyet added, "I think we were better with 10 men because we showed more commitment and desire and it forced them to push on.

"Credit to them, I thought they planned the game the same as they did at our ground, it went to penalties but when we've got a goalkeeper like Peter Brezovan who is very hard to beat."
