Postecoglou appointed Melbourne Victory coach

Melbourne Victory have announced the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the clubs new head coach on a three-year deal.

Postecoglou joins the Victory after leaving his post at Brisbane Roar where he took out the last two A-League Premierships and set a new record for the longest unbeaten run in Australian sport, having overseen a streak run of 36 games without a loss.

Victory chairman Anthony Di Pietro made the announcement and was thrilled to welcome the former South Melbourne coach on board.

"Ange has been the outstanding coach in the Hyundai A-League over the past two seasons. He implemented a very progressive style of play at Brisbane Roar and we believe he is the right person to take our club to the next phase of success," said Di Pietro.

"When we became aware that Ange was interested in a new challenge and the possibility of returning to Melbourne, we obviously engaged in discussions and have now reached an agreement.

"Ange has been charged with the responsibility of shaping the playing squad to compliment his coaching style. Change and regeneration is what we believe is required to foster the next phase of success, and Ange's track record speaks for itself."

Postecoglou added: "It's a big club, with big expectations and I'm really looking forward to the next chapter in my coaching career here at Melbourne Victory.

"This is a great opportunity and presents a whole new challenge and one that I'm really excited about, especially considering I'm a Melburnian, and I can't wait to get started."
