Phil Brown has refused to rule out a return as Hull boss next season. Brown was put on gardening leave by the club in March with the Tigers battling relegation from the Premier League, and Iain Dowie was drafted in to preside over the final nine matches of the campaign. "I've never heard of it before - a manager returning after being removed. But nothing in football surprises me," Brown told Sky Sports.

Hull's relegation from the Premier League was confirmed after a 2-2 draw at Wigan last weekend, and it is uncertain who will guide the club next term with Dowie's deal running only until the end of the season.

Hull's precarious financial position means Brown is still effectively the manager as chairman Adam Pearson has yet to pay off the remainder of his contract.

Brown is set to hold talks with Pearson and club owner Russell Bartlett on Wednesday, at which the 50-year-old hopes his contractual situation will be resolved.

"I just want it to be honourable," Brown added.

"If it's closure, then give me what I'm due and appreciate what I've done for the club in the last three and a half years. Let's see what they've got to say.

"I've got to make sure I go into this meeting fresh and the ultimate goal for me is, where does my career go?

"With 24 points with nine games to go, I was still looking at 12 points, I was still looking at four wins in the last nine games.

"There was probably more than four winnable matches. I'm not going to disrespect Iain Dowie - he's won one against Fulham and drawn two so he's got five points - but I'd earmarked two or three other fixtures that could have accumulated maybe 15 points."
