The Portuguese Football Federation have confirmed that they have parted ways with manager Paulo Bento.
45-year old Bento has been in charge of the Portugal side since replacing Carlos Queiroz in September 2010 but his tenure has now been ended in the wake of Sunday's shock 1-0 loss to Albania in their opening Euro2016 qualifier.
Bento's sacking comes after Portugal failed to progress from the group stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil with one win, one draw and one loss in a group consisting of champions Germany, USA and Ghana.
Portugal's federation released a statement on Thursday saying the former Sporting Lisbon boss had vacated his role and that a replacement would be appointed as soon as possible.
