Portsmouth's Nugent ready for Man Utd clash

David Nugent plans to use his Portsmouth home debut against Manchester United tonight to catch the eye of England boss Steve McClaren.

He told the Portsmouth News: "There is nothing like making your home debut against Manchester United, I'm really looking forward to it. For me it's the chance to test yourself against the best, that's what the Premier League's about, and they've got some great players.

"In training I have noticed the step-up from the Championship and it's a lot sharper but I'm enjoying it. I've got to catch the eye now, I've been in the squad before and I want to be in there again. If I score a few goals I'm sure I will get another chance.

"I did okay at Derby, there were a few new players in there so it's going to take time to gel. That will only come with games but I thought we did well considering it was our first game together. We've got to aim for Europe.

"Portsmouth had a good finish last year and now the squad is a lot stronger with the players we've brought in. Pre-season went really well, everyone's settled in quickly and I'm really enjoying it."
