Portsmouth's Little didn't expect Wembley chance

New Portsmouth winger Glen Little admits he thought his chances of playing at Wembley had gone.

Ahead of tomorrow's Community Shield clash with Manchester United, the former Reading midfielder, 32, said: "You always hope for a chance to play in a game like this.

"When you are in the Championship, you wonder if there will be a play-off final. Then when I was at Reading in the Premier League, we were hoping for a cup run.

"Now, as I come to the end of my career, I've been given the chance to play at Wembley, which I never thought I'd get.

"It was never on my mind, so signing for Portsmouth was a lucky break.

"We are all looking forward to the game and I want to play a part.

"We have a massive game before the season starts. It's a great occasion for everyone.

"We want to put on a good show. Whenever you play United it's a good game and we then play them again straight away in the league so this will be a gauge for us."
