Portsmouth's James: I was convinced Redknapp would leave

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James admits he was convinced Harry Redknapp would take the Newcastle United job.

James said: "Joe Jordan took training on Friday and by the time we got back Harry had left the training ground.

"It was a strange one and instinct told me he wouldn't be coming back. Harry's never been one just to disappear.

"At Manchester City Stuart Pearce was always off scouting. But Harry's different, you always know where to find him."

England star James reckons Redknapp is a rarity in the game - a loyal manager.

He added: "A massive opportunity was presented to him but he decided to stay. It's not often you witness that kind of loyalty."
