Portsmouth midfielder Richard Hughes has been hit with a three-match ban.
Hughes was shown a straight red card by referee Andrew Turner after 25 minutes of Portsmouth reserves' 1-0 win over Birmingham's second string on Wednesday night.
Hughes clashed with Blues defender David Howland, who had scythed him down in a tackle just a few seconds earlier. A Football Association spokesman said: "The player will be suspended for three matches from 24 October for a deliberate head-butt."
