Portsmouth's Distin wants France call

Sylvain Distin admits he hopes his form with Portsmouth can win him a France call-up.

He told The News: "It's always great for a player to play for his country and, of course I want to play for France. I haven't so far. I've dealt most of my career in results and I'm happy in the choices I have made so far in England, but it's still my ambition to play for France.

"I now see some players who are 30 and go into the national squad for the first time which makes me feel it's not over. But I don't play for my club to get into the national team. I play for my club because I want to win with my club and, as I always say, if you work hard and you deserve it, it will happen.

"So I'll just work for Portsmouth and if you get good results, maybe it will attract a bit more attention on our club. That will also help me. That's the only thing I can do and I will keep working hard."
