Portsmouth's Distin angry over attack on foreigners

Portsmouth defender Sylvain Distin is angry with the way the Premiership's foreigners are being blamed for England's failure.

"I'm the sort of guy that when I read in the paper that England don't succeed because of us, I feel a little surprised," the Frenchman told The Sun. "People always look for excuses when they fail. Why do we want to talk about foreigners?

"England didn't fail because there are a lot of foreigners here. England have a good team but sometimes you win, sometimes you lose."

Distin does not agree with the growing number of calls for a limit on foreign players in the Premier League.

He said: "I was asked to come here, I came. I don't stop anyone taking my place who is better than me.

"The Premier League is an attraction to top players and as long as you can communicate I don't see the problem. You can come from Zimbabwe, Peru or England."
