Sol Campbell admits his success at Portsmouth - and a recall to England's squad - is down to raw ambition.
He said: "Not many people who have not played for their country for a long while can come back and play like they have never been away. I just got out there and played for Pompey hoping the situation would change. For me it did because of my desire and talent - but you have got to nurture the talent.
"Don't take liberties with it because then if you do your form goes. You've got to train properly, look after the talent you have got and have the right mental approach.
"Some players just give up and waste it. It happens a lot in football all over the world but sometimes inside a player like me something burns and wakes you up."
