Portsmouth tipped to outdo Liverpool, Man City in Irish recruiting

Home Farm director of football Liam Brien says Portsmouth will outdo bigger Premiership rivals in recruiting the best of Ireland's young talent after their formal link-up announced last week.

Brien told The News: "In Ireland, Cherry Orchard have Manchester City, St Kevin's Boys have Liverpool, St Joseph's have Newcastle. None, however, are similar to what we are trying to do here.

"We are trying to have a proper link-up where Portsmouth help with the cost of our Academy and we basically replicate what they have over here.

"Of course, the Irish people will see this link-up and see it as a great chance to get across to England and play in the Premier League. This news can only help attract players in as well.

"I honestly believe we will have a regular conveyor belt for Portsmouth to have a look at and bring over to England."
