Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe is convinced he can become England's first-choice forward.
Defoe said: "It's only normal to want to win the Golden Boot, I think most strikers do. When I go home after a game I always look at the top scorers chart on TV and see where I am and who I am in competition with.
"I know how many goals I have got and I think I need a couple more to go second behind Anelka. I always know exactly where I am in the chart and most of the other boys do as well.
"There is a lot of competition among the English lads this season because Bent is doing well and Crouchie keeps telling me he is on the same number of goals as me.
"Michael has been injured but has still scored goals so it would be nice to get a bit of distance between us."
