Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch hopes the debate over his England future will have been settled after scoring in midweek.
Crouch said: "I hope I've stepped up my claim to be a regular member of the side. I have always felt, when I have played for England in the past, I have never let anyone down.
"People were talking before the game about me starting. Hopefully I can continue to be part of the team and play more of an important role.
"It has been difficult at times not starting during the past 12 months. You want to be playing every game but that is not always the case.
"You have a lot of good strikers, a lot of good players, to contest with. All I'll do when given the opportunity, is play to the best of my ability and hopefully I did that against Ukraine."
Crouch added: "I'd like to believe I have given the manager a headache. You want to score and play and I'll just continue to work hard and hopefully get a chance again.
"I was extremely pleased. It is always an exciting and special time when you play for England at Wembley in front of your own fans so to get a goal made it even more special.
"It is also always difficult to get into a game when you come off the bench so to start a game was really pleasing. But getting the result was the most important thing."
