Portsmouth signing Thomas: I'm a Redknapp-type of player

Charlton Athletic winger Jerome Thomas is delighted with his loan move to Portsmouth.

Thomas told the Portsmouth News: "If you look over the years at the type of player that Harry (Redknapp) has brought to clubs, I think I'm that type of player.

"I think I can bring some intensity and some flair. So I want to make Harry look like a smart man again for bringing me to the club."

Redknapp's search for width has been a pressing concern all summer and the 25-year-old will add options as he can operate effectively on either flank.

But Thomas revealed the Pompey boss had been unsuccessful with a previous attempt to sign him before completing his move to Fratton Park.

Thomas said: "Harry tried to get me in January but Charlton didn't want to let me go. I've been working hard in pre-season, I've been concentrating on Charlton and getting my head down, but I think Harry has watched a few games and obviously likes what he saw.

"I was playing for Charlton when we beat Swansea 2-0 last week, then got knocked out of the Carling Cup in midweek. I was preparing for Watford this weekend, but then I got a phone call on Thursday to pack up and get down here.

"Now I'm looking forward to Chelsea on Sunday. It feels great. It's the happiest point of my career so far and I'm looking forward to it."
