Jermain Defoe can now sign for Portsmouth after Benjani Mwaruwari's move to Manchester City was completed.

Striker Defoe had joined on loan from Tottenham.

But Pompey supremo Peter Storrie said: "He will sign a four-and-a-half year contract."
