Portsmouth defender Mike Williamson is being linked with a move to Championship leader Newcastle United.
The 26-year old has not enjoyed regular playing time with Pompey since his move from Watford last summer and it is believed the Magpies are keen to strengthen their defence despite holding the second best defensive record in England's second tier.
Newcastle boss Chris Hughton will use the opportunity of regular first team action to lure Williamson to St James' Park as Portsmouth continue to slip into further financial problems.
