Portsmouth remain confident of landing Mexico coach Eriksson

Portsmouth are confident of landing Mexico coach Sven Goran Eriksson.

The Mexican Football Federation has handed Eriksson a vote of confidence after their World Cup qualifier defeat to the USA.

However, the Daily Mail says there is a feeling that the support for Eriksson has more to do with an unwillingness to sack the Swede when Portsmouth are interested considering it would cost the FMF around £2.7million in compensation.

Conversely, cash-strapped Portsmouth would struggle to pick up the tab and would therefore prefer to reach a compromise agreement with Eriksson's current employers that would suit all parties.

Eriksson is believed to be keen on a return to the Barclays Premier League sooner rather than later having spent an up and down season in charge of Manchester City.

However, he is understood to be undecided as to whether Fratton Park would be the best venue despite the potential of a huge bonus payment if he keeps Portsmouth in the top flight.
