Portsmouth nightmare start to season continues

Portsmouth suffered a seventh straight Premier League defeat in a 1-0 home loss to Everton. Louis Saha broke the deadlock when he steered the ball past David James to give the Toffees their first away points of the campaign.

South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena rattled the crossbar as Pompey rallied in the second half and they appeared to have snatched a point only for Leighton Baines to clear Hassan Yebda's header off the line.

But Sylvain Distin, who left Pompey for Everton in the summer, told Sky Sports 1: "They are a good team and they are definitely going to get something if they keep fighting.

"They worked hard and that's the secret. If you work hard you eventually get something and they will."

Everton boss David Moyes echoed those thoughts.

"Portsmouth put us under a lot of pressure but that's to be expected," he said.

"When you've lost five and six in a row, you're going to show some pride and they did that."
