Portsmouth have made a formal move for Liverpool striker Peter Crouch.
Crouch, who flourished under Redknapp's management when they were together at Southampton, has been a long-term target but a deal has yet to be agreed between the two Barclays Premier League clubs.
Portsmouth's bid - sanctioned by owner Alexandre Gaydamak, who wants to provide Redknapp with a large summer budget - is the first firm offer on the table and Crouch could yet be persuaded to return to the south coast.
