At 38, Portsmouth goalkeeper David James admits he's surprised he is still playing.
"What has happened to me here has been phenomenal," the England No1 told the Portsmouth News.
"My missus keeps kicking me, though, because although the move was done for all the right reasons, it wasn't in the big plan to continue playing football for so long. I had a year left at Man City so the thinking was after that maybe going down to play for Plymouth.
"Plymouth didn't know about it, it was just a brainwave. I sort of had ideas of playing until I was 37 - I'm 38 now. At that stage, I had moved down to Devon - then Portsmouth came in.
"Suddenly it was great, I could commute and see my family and kids in London. It was kind of - I can manage my life in such a way that I actually had a relationship with a person rather than the M5.
"She's still giving me grief about it, constantly. But that was the idea. Then it sort of went from strength to strength at Portsmouth and we succeeded each time as a club."
