Portsmouth keeper James delighted with England chance

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James was delighted with the show of faith from England boss Fabio Capello this week.

"It's a case of one step at a time but I want to be England No1 at the 2010 World Cup," said James. "I have a contract at Portsmouth which will see me through to that World Cup.

"If I am playing first-team football in the Premier League for Portsmouth, I should be in a position where I could play first-team football for England. The only thing that is going to stop me is better goalkeepers.

"I am buzzing about the fact I started, even more so to play 90 minutes.

"People were wondering if I would play because in the past new managers have had new starts and you anticipate you are not going to be involved.

"I didn't feel nervous at all. I thought beforehand there could be a bit of pressure but I felt good and I want to experience that again."
