Portsmouth keeper James backing Robinson

Portsmouth goalkeeper David James is confident Tottenham rival Paul Robinson will bounce back from his gaffe for England last week against Germany.

"It reminded me of the one time it happened to me years ago against Plymouth," James told BBC Radio Five Live.

"The guy appeared to be putting a cross in but it swung towards the near post. It is not an easy ball to deal with. You don't expect it. The play suggests he would whip it out towards the penalty spot or something. It is very tricky to deal with.

"You do hurt because you are underneath the scrutiny of millions and it is very hurtful but you have to get past it.

"You can't expect to go through a long career at any level without making mistakes. The higher up you are the more people are going to see it. In some respects it is the test of someone's character."
