Portsmouth goalkeeper David James admits he got it wrong when venting his frustration after England's 1-1 draw with the US.
James says he had to work so hard to get to the World Cup. Hour after hour in the gym, "on the treadmill, on the cross-trainer, always with England in mind".
It was why, he explained, he was so bitterly disappointed not to start against the USA in that opening World Cup group game.
"All the work I'd put in over the year was geared towards playing in the first game," he told the Daily Mail.
"I only played half a warm-up game and I'm still thinking, "Is this part of his master plan?" For two minutes I was unhappy. But then I reminded myself that it's all about the team."
