Portsmouth are making a new play to keep David James.
The England goalkeeper is a target for West Ham United and Fulham.
The Daily Express says Portsmouth are hoping to persuade James to turn his back on an illustrious Premier League career by offering him more than just a playing role at Fratton Park.
Pompey want James, who turns 40 on August 1, to continue as their first-choice goalkeeper in the Championship next season and will also offer him the chance to gain his coaching badges so he can eventually join their backroom staff.
