Portsmouth are haggling over a compo fee with West Bromwich Albion for Michael Appleton.

The Sunday Mirror says the West Brom coach is the man Pompey want to succeed Steve Cotterill and Appleton is ready to take his first step into management.

But last night compensation terms had not been agreed between the clubs and West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace will demand a full settlement on Appleton's contract.
