Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is chasing Heerenveen striker Afonso Alves.
The Brazil international wants a move from his Dutch club after being priced out of a switch to Middlesbrough over the summer.
The News of the World says Redknapp is ready to bid for Alves when the market reopens in January.
