Portsmouth furious with Spurs over lack of yob action

Portsmouth are furious with the lack of action being taken by Tottenham authorities over the abuse Sol Campbell copped on Sunday.

They believe Spurs are frightened to tackle the yobs among their fans who verbally abused their one-time hero last weekend.

Pompey yesterday hit the FA with an official complaint over Campbell's treatment.

Cops are already investigating the obscene chanting and personal abuse aimed at the Portsmouth skipper during Sunday's 2-0 win. But now the two clubs are heading for war.

A Pompey insider told The Sun: "Tottenham have done hardly anything to support Sol or Portsmouth in what is a serious situation.

"There has been no apology on behalf of Spurs, just a wishy-washy statement.

"Why are they so reluctant to take on the element among their own support which is dragging the name of the club down? Portsmouth are not happy."

Pompey are also considering slashing Spurs' ticket allocation for their next visit to Fratton.

A statement yesterday read: "Sol and the club feel no player should be subjected to personal abuse of this nature."

A later Spurs statement said: "Given that we do not tolerate any form of obscene or abusive chanting/singing at White Hart Lane and have taken strong action against offenders, when we are away from home we would expect our fans to respect the stewarding policies at the stadia they are visiting."
