Portsmouth fullback Steve Finnan admits he's surprised by the struggles of former club Liverpool.

Finnan faces Liverpool today for the first time since leaving for Espanyol.

Finnan, who spent five glittering years at Anfield, said: "They'll be disappointed with the way their season has gone so far. I am surprised. I do not think they can win the league now.

"I've been on the wrong end of a couple of defeats at Fratton Park so I know it is a ground they don't like coming to. It was always hostile. We're going to need that."
