Portsmouth fans are livid over reports Peter Storrie was paid by the club £87,000 for five months consultancy work.
The Daily Mail says Storrie stepped down from his £1.2m-a-year post after administrators took over but was retained as an adviser.
Brendon Bone, of the Pompey Independent Supporters' Trust, called the payment, revealed in a report by administrators, "ridiculous", adding: "It's never been explained, certainly to us as a trust, what Mr Storrie's role was."
Since administrators took over, income has exceeded expenditure by around £300,000.
